Commitment to Diversity
because we are all connected
The Green Fools Theatre would like to acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
We would like to publicly acknowledge our support for the 35//50 Initiative.
The 35//50 Initiative is based on two facts: Between 35-43% of our city identify as IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, People of Colour), but only 17% of employed professionals in our artistic community are IBPOC (as of 2017). The goal of the 35//50 initiative is to have a minimum of 35% IBPOC and 50% female identifying or non-binary people in paid professional positions by 2024/2025.
We recognize that institutionalized systems of exclusion have dis-proportionally affected the IBPOC community in our city and in the arts sector. We acknowledge that racial disparity has adversely impacted minority communities across the country.

IBPOC Community statement, for the last 20 years, has been to be a central creative hub in which artists of diverse cultural backgrounds come together to explore and intertwine circus, theatre, puppetry, mask and physical theatre. We create socially empowering work with our theatre creations, and we offer workshops and employment opportunities for diverse artists from around the world. We focus on gender and racial equity within our free Social Circus outreach programs for at-risk, Indigenous, new immigrant, and refugee youth that we offer to our social partners, schools and community partners. We believe in bringing diverse communities together for the greater good of the society and to strengthen bonds between artists, youth, and the community at large.
Green Fools was co-founded, and led by a Métis artist since 1991, we will continue to support and hire IBPOC artists, and we will continue to strive for greater IBPOC representation on our staff and board of directors.
We would like to thank all the artists that have worked to make the 35//50 Initiative a reality. This is important work at an important time in history. We support this work, and we will continue to support our IBPOC community!
